Why the sign matters

A garage sale lives or dies on signage. Drivers decide in seconds, so the sign has to answer three things instantly: what, when and where. A clean, high-contrast poster does that far better than handwriting on cardboard.

What to put on it

• “Garage Sale” as the biggest word on the sign.
• The day(s) and a clear time window.
• The street address, or the nearest cross-street.
• Two or three things that draw people in — furniture, kids’ clothes, tools.
• “Cash only” if that’s the case.

How to make one

1. Open the poster maker and pick the generic template.
2. Type “Garage Sale” as the title; add the date in the subtitle.
3. Use tags for the time window and address.
4. List what you’re selling, one line each.
5. Download the PNG, or “Save as PDF” and print at A4/Letter.

Signage tips

• Print two or three copies: one for each end of the street.
• Big text only — people read signs while driving.
• Put the address on every copy, or add “follow the signs”.
